New Delhi, June 15: India has extended its official support to the newly announced peace understanding between the United States and Iran, focusing on the restoration of security and commercial freedom in global maritime corridors. The diplomatic advancement is seen as a crucial step toward stabilizing international energy markets that had faced prolonged vulnerability during the recent confrontation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed that the implementation of the bilateral understanding is expected to revitalize regional stability and secure the unhindered movement of global commerce and navigation. He maintained that the conflict had taken an unacceptable toll on human lives and triggered severe economic volatility affecting various nations.
The stabilization of the region remains a priority for Indian foreign policy, particularly after the crisis jeopardized one of the world’s most critical energy supply channels. Security concerns for the country escalated recently after three Indian sailors were killed during maritime strikes on merchant shipping, an event that prompted New Delhi to demand stricter enforcement of safety measures for civilian seafaring vessels.
The Prime Minister also pointed out the necessity of managing the remaining complex disputes between the two nations, which encompass long-term Gulf security arrangements and aspects of Iran’s nuclear program. He remarked that India remains hopeful that ongoing negotiations will bridge these gaps to achieve a permanent settlement.
The framework, which mandates an immediate halt to active combat and restores traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, is expected to be formalized later this week during a gathering in Switzerland.
