Solan, June 29: The sudden collapse of an inflatable attraction on the final evening of the national Shoolini Fair has triggered intense safety concerns among residents, who are now demanding a rigorous technical audit of all amusement rides operating in the region. The structural failure, which saw a commercial Mickey Mouse inflatable deflate instantly at Thodo Ground, left over a dozen children buried under heavy synthetic material before alert citizens intervened.
Local visitors managed to clear the heavy paneling and rescue all the trapped children without any reported casualties. However, families noted that even a minor delay in their spontaneous response could have led to serious injuries or suffocation given the weight of the material.
Reflecting on the critical moments of the rescue, witness Pradeep Kumar and other regional fairgoers declared that the immediate exit of the ride attendants complicated the situation. They asserted that the operators failed to offer any structural assistance during the initial panic.
The legal handling of the case has since drawn frustration from the local community, with parents asserting that administrative delays have slowed down the implementation of punitive measures against the operating agency. The families declared that full transparency is required to ensure that such regulatory loopholes do not endanger children at public festivals in the future.
Addressing the ongoing investigation, Superintendent of Police Sai Dattatreya Varma maintained that the formal submissions from the parents are under active evaluation. He declared that a systematic review of the incident is underway to establish precise operational accountability.
The event highlights an urgent need for institutional safety overhauls, as the civic body currently oversees the financial permitting of these highly popular carnival spaces without employing dedicated technical experts to monitor ride integrity.
