Ambala Borewell Mishap: Child Pulled out Dead

Multi-Agency Efforts Thwarted by Inclement Weather as Toddler Passes Away After Twenty-One Hours Trapped

by TheReportingTimes

Ambala, July 1: An extensive multi-agency rescue effort failed to save a four-year-old boy who fell into a two-hundred-and-twenty-foot-deep uncovered borewell in Haryana’s Ambala district. Despite the continuous deployment of specialized disaster relief teams and military personnel, the child was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital after being pulled out from the shaft before dawn on Wednesday.

The administration concluded the intensive recovery mission at around 3.40 am, immediately transferring Nirvair Singh to the Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital. Medical professionals confirmed that an initial evaluation took place right at the edge of the borewell during the final stages of the operation. Dr. Rishipal Singh, a Medical Officer at the facility, declared that the child showed no signs of life at the spot and was subsequently brought to the hospital for mandatory medical protocols. The body has been shifted to the mortuary, and officials asserted that the precise timing and medical cause of death will be established through the upcoming postmortem evaluation.

The tragedy unfolded in Dhaneora village, where the child had gone to the family fields with his father, Manjit Singh, an electricity department employee, to bring food for his grandfather. According to local accounts, the young boy was sitting near his grandfather before he walked away toward the open structure. Investigators believe the damp soil surrounding the rim gave way as the toddler peered into the hole, causing him to slide down.

Local volunteers and the family tried to manage the situation initially but called for administrative assistance within an hour of the fall. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar, who oversaw the site operations alongside senior administrative staff, maintained that the district administration, the Army, and disaster teams worked tirelessly under stressful circumstances, which were made worse by sudden downpours. In the wake of the incident, officials issued a strict advisory to the farming community regarding the safety hazards of unsealed agricultural wells. This incident comes just weeks after a similar crisis in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, where a four-year-old was successfully saved from a newly dug borewell following a swift nine-hour operation.
