Rajgarh, August 10: A heavy downpour in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district resulted in a severe accident when a passenger van carrying eleven people was swept into a swollen watercourse near Sarangpur, resulting in nine fatalities.
The driver attempted to cross the submerged Padana bypass culvert around 9 AM despite visible waterlogging caused by overflowing rivers and streams throughout the surrounding area. While nine bodies, including that of a young girl, were recovered, two passengers managed to navigate the currents and swim to safety.
Witnesses reported that both local residents and administrative staff present at the location urged the driver to halt and refrain from crossing the deep water. The driver continued forward, causing the strong current to submerge the vehicle almost immediately.
Demonstrating notable courage, community members at the scene secured ropes and entered the rising waters to assist victims, successfully retrieving several individuals during the initial moments of the surge.
Briefing media on the development, Sarangpur SDOP Arvind Singh maintained, “A case has been registered at the Sarangpur police station.”
Elaborating on the circumstances, Singh asserted, “The driver carelessly drove the van into the strong current of the drain on the road near the Padana bypass, and it sank in no time, killing nine people.”
