CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 18: Selected petrol pumps across Chandigarh witnessed large public turnouts as a novel community welfare project provided free fuel vouchers to motorists. The distribution drive, organized under the banner of a “petrol langar,” provided visitors with redeemable fuel coupons valued at Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 at outlets in Sectors 7 and 10.
“The initiative is aimed at taking the idea of langar beyond food and into everyday expenses such as fuel,” organizer Rakesh Trehan declared, explaining the purpose behind extending traditional charity into essential commodities.
Trehan, who hails from a textile business background in Amritsar and engages in cryptocurrency trading, stated that his social service efforts stem from personal faith.
“These philanthropic activities are guided by faith and the blessings of Mahamai,” Trehan declared while addressing the funding and motivation behind the public outreach.
The initiative marks a progression from an earlier campaign in Sector 8, termed “paison ka langar,” where currency notes of Rs 500 were distributed alongside food items. Observers noted that while the concept of langar traditionally refers to non-discriminatory community meals, its adaptation to cover fuel and proposed future items like smartphones has drawn widespread attention across the region.
