CHANDIGARH, August 31: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann presided over the inauguration of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cricket League, marking the arrival of the state’s first franchise-based cricket tournament. The league commenced with an opening fixture between Amritsar Soormas and Mohali Kings, bringing together over 100 top local talents selected through a competitive auction process.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared that the league will provide wings to the aspirations of young athletes across the region. He maintained that Punjab continues to emerge as a powerhouse of Indian cricket, noting that key national team players including Abhishek Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, and Gurnoor Brar trace their roots to the state.
The Chief Minister affirmed that building a vibrant sporting culture remains central to the state’s social welfare mission. He maintained that expanding athletic facilities and organising broad-based events like the upcoming ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’ will ensure that multi-generational talent receives full support and recognition. Lok Sabha Member Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and prominent sports figures were present alongside the Chief Minister during the launch.
