CHANDIGARH — Official data from the Central Ground Water Board confirms that targeted state interventions have initiated a recovery in Punjab’s subterranean aquifers, AAP Media In-charge Baltej Pannu declared on Monday. Speaking at a press conference, Pannu maintained that an 11.58 percentage point drop in groundwater extraction over four years proves the effectiveness of the state’s irrigation strategy. He stated that critical blocks dropped from 10 down to 6, while total annual groundwater recharge reached 19.14 billion cubic meters.
Government representatives asserted that prioritizing canal delivery directly mitigated reliance on electricity-heavy underground extraction. “Not slogans, lies or emotional speeches, but Mann Govt’s vision, planning & commitment saved Punjab’s groundwater,” Pannu declared. He maintained that increased canal water recharge, which rose to 5.5 billion cubic meters this year, provided crucial replenishment alongside seasonal rainfall.
The party leadership called on opposition organizations to account for past administrative inaction regarding water distribution infrastructure. Representatives stated that previous political regimes allowed hundreds of kilometers of canals to remain unusable while farmers were forced to over-extract subterranean reserves. Pannu affirmed that activating over 14,000 watercourses ensured surface water reached tail-end farming plots.
AAP spokespersons affirmed that the environmental gains mark a major milestone for state agricultural planning and national food security. Officials maintained that the administration remains focused on expanding recharge wells, lining irrigation channels, and securing state natural resources to prevent desertification across farming belts.
