NEW DELHI, Oct 7: A formal criminal case has been lodged by the Delhi Police against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in connection with their breach into Akashvani Bhawan during Tuesday’s political demonstration. Law enforcement agencies confirmed that charges were framed over claims of forced entry, trespass, and failure to comply with police directives in a restricted administrative area.
The march, organized by the opposition INDIA bloc to protest over electoral roll revision issues, saw over 300 parliamentarians blocked en route to Nirvachan Sadan. Rather than submitting to immediate custody at the barricades, the Gandhi siblings redirected their path into the adjacent Akashvani Bhawan, turning the broadcasting complex into the epicenter of an extended day-long confrontation.
Police representatives stated that the decision to press formal charges was taken to address security violations and maintain law and order across high-security zones in the capital. Congress representatives have condemned the FIR, framing the police action as an attempt to penalize peaceful democratic protest and suppress opposition oversight.
