Lucknow, Sept 15: Uttar Pradesh power utilities maintained near-normal electricity distribution schedules across rural and urban sectors despite an operational deficit of up to 2,000 MW triggered by heavy monsoon rains in mining zones.
Energy department head Dr Ashish Kumar Goyal stated that instructions have been issued to tap all available spot markets and internal generation capabilities. The state corporation affirmed that power is being procured at rates up to ₹10 per unit during daytime peak hours to prevent widespread load shedding in rural areas, tehsil headquarters, and the Bundelkhand belt.
Although nationwide coal shortages have constrained around 35 GW of thermal capacity, state utilities are successfully generating and distributing close to 27,000 MW. Brief nighttime supply adjustments in rural regions are being managed while technical teams work to restore thermal units suffering from boiler tube leakages.
Officials declared that operational adjustments, including coal diversion to the Lanco plant and augmented dispatches to the Bara station, have added 700 MW to nighttime capacity. An additional 1,500 MW is slated to return to the grid shortly as repairs wrap up at key units including Anpara-D and Jawaharpur. Senior state leadership maintained active coordination with central coal authorities to restore normative reserve levels.
