NEW DELHI, OCT 7: The Supreme Court on Wednesday voiced sharp dissatisfaction with actor Rajpal Yadav’s past conduct while granting him a brief extension until October 13 to deposit the remaining ₹85 lakh out of a required ₹2 crore partial payment.
The order came after the actor personally appeared before a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana, submitting a demand draft of ₹1.15 crore.
The court made it clear that failure to adhere to the revised deadline would result in strict consequences, including the potential enhancement of his sentence.
The bench granted the extension after Yadav explained that the transaction for an ancestral land sale was delayed due to the ‘Shraddh’ period.
The prospective buyer also appeared in court, undertaking to pay the balance ₹85 lakh by demand draft. Interacting directly with the actor, the CJI noted that while his conduct did not inspire confidence, the court was offering breathing space given the partial deposit made.
Advising Yadav to focus on creating good cinema to restore his reputation, the bench scheduled his petition challenging a Delhi High Court conviction and three-month prison sentence for detailed consideration following the compliance deadline.
