Chandigarh, Oct 9: Senior administrator Gaurav Yadav has been designated as Director General of Police for Punjab, establishing a fixed two-year period at the helm of state law enforcement. An order signed by Additional Chief Secretary Alok Shekhar on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs confirmed the assignment following extensive consultation regarding candidate qualifications. The decision places the experienced 1992-batch officer at the head of the state police organization.
The appointment followed a recommendation process in which the Union Public Service Commission evaluated candidates submitted by state authorities before releasing a final panel of three officers. State leaders affirmed that the selection meets all judicial parameters set by the apex court to ensure consistency and continuity in policing leadership. The newly appointed head of force will oversee state security operations under the terms outlined in the executive order.
