Chandigarh, Oct 20: State authorities formally transferred the inquiry regarding the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota to the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann declared via an online communication platform that the administration stands in solidarity with the relatives of the deceased in their continued opposition to narcotics. Officials affirmed that transferring the file to federal authorities satisfies the principal request submitted by the mourning family.
Chief Minister Mann asserted that the state government’s offensive against narcotics traffickers proceeds without compromise and that authorities stand prepared to execute decisive actions to achieve a drug-free region. The involvement of the central agency addresses the primary stipulations put forward by the victim’s family and the designated action committee advocating for justice.
The incident occurred at a medical shop in Mansa where Jhota confronted the proprietor regarding the illicit distribution of controlled substances, an event captured entirely via a live internet broadcast. Multiple associates accompanying the activist suffered injuries during the altercation.
Family members have kept the body of the activist at the Mansa civil hospital while delaying authorization for the autopsy procedure. The father of the activist, an ex-serviceman, previously insisted on a federal inquiry to uncover the full scope of the conspiracy. Public demonstrations and a state-wide shutdown had earlier reflected community frustration regarding the security situation and alleged administrative complicity.
The announcement coincides with heightened political activity and widespread demonstrations across multiple districts. Protesters continue to demand comprehensive investigations into potential links between narcotics syndicates and local figures, emphasizing the urgency of systemic reforms following the public killing.
