Chandigarh, Oct 26: Farmers across Punjab are set to receive substantial financial support following the introduction of a fifty crore rupee seed subsidy program. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian stated that the measure focuses on lowering production costs while ensuring access to verified, high-yielding crop varieties.

The program grants an upfront price reduction of two thousand rupees per quintal, lowering retail costs from four thousand two hundred and fifty rupees down to two thousand two hundred and fifty rupees. State guidelines limit the financial assistance to a maximum of two thousand rupees per hectare or half the total seed outlay.

Implementation will proceed through the Krishonnati Yojana framework, targeting over two hundred and forty-two thousand farmers statewide. Officials clarified that the subsidy covers approved varieties from PAU Ludhiana and ICAR that have been introduced within the past decade.

To safeguard crop yields, state officials declared that quality control standards will be strictly enforced, with designated agencies responsible for addressing any reported seed issues.
