Amritsar, May 12 — In a major crackdown on an international narco-hawala syndicate, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police on Monday dismantled a drug cartel linked to Turkey-based smuggler Navpreet Singh alias Nav Bhullar, arresting three key operatives and seizing heroin and illicit cash.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurdeep Singh alias Saab, Pardeep Sharma, and Mani Sharma. Police recovered 1.01 kg of heroin, Rs 1.06 crore in hawala-linked money, a cash counting machine, and a car used in operations.
“Out of the total money seized, Rs 84.02 lakh was in cash, while Rs 22 lakh was frozen in bank accounts,” Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav posted on X.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that preliminary investigations suggest Gurdeep Singh was managing the local operations under Nav Bhullar’s direction.
“Bhullar not only provided logistics but also arranged a hideout in Amritsar to help Gurdeep run the cartel,” he said.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are now working to trace the cartel’s backward and forward linkages, indicating further arrests and seizures may follow.
