Amritsar, Sept 20: Senior Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Amarjit Singh Chawla and Akal Takht Additional Head Granthi Malkit Singh have been excommunicated from the Sikh community by the five Sikh high priests during a meeting held at the Akal Takht Secretariat on Sunday.

Announcing the religious decree from the Akal Takht, Acting Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj affirmed that the institutional decision reflects strict adherence to Panthic norms and discipline. The administrative action against Chawla stems from an ongoing investigation into a police complaint filed at Anandpur Sahib, wherein a complainant alleged sexual harassment and assault. Malkit Singh came under scrutiny over associated charges involving objectionable electronic communications.

The religious panel comprised prominent spiritual leaders including Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Tek Singh, Harmandir Sahib Granthi Kewal Singh, Akal Takht Granthi Gurbakhshish Singh, and Panj Pyare member Mangal Singh. The clerical assembly collectively endorsed the resolution to bar both individuals from religious and community engagements.
