BJP Challenges Congress on Historical Rights and Governance

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Nov 4: At a political conclave organized on Wednesday, BJP Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad and party colleague R P Singh challenged Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to an open debate regarding the handling of the 1984 violence and its aftermath. The leaders maintained that public figures addressing political gatherings in Punjab must address long-standing concerns of the victimized families and clarify the party’s position on former leaders linked to the events.

Addressing the gathering, the leaders cited findings from historical commissions, including the Mishra and Nanavati reports, asserting that administrative delays in 1984 impacted law enforcement responses. They noted that ongoing legal proceedings, including recent court decisions and charge-framings, reflect progress made through judicial mechanisms. The party affirmed its continued solidarity with the legal struggle of the affected families while urging political opponents to engage in transparent public discussions.
