Chandigarh, August 22: A sharp feud within the Punjab Congress has reached legal doors after state unit chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring served a defamation notice on former police chief Mohammad Mustafa for publicly questioning his fitness to hold party office.
The notice highlights statements delivered by Mustafa during a televised interview, asserting that the ex-DGP knowingly used derogatory language to undermine Warring’s reputation as an elected representative and organizational leader. According to the document, the former officer targeted Warring’s personal decision-making and abilities rather than engaging in constructive policy debate.
Warring’s legal team called upon Mustafa to issue a prominent public apology, delete all digital posts featuring the remarks, and provide a written undertaking to cease further derogatory comments within two days of receiving the notice.
Mustafa, who has maintained an ongoing public campaign urging the Congress high command to replace Warring, promptly rejected the demand for an apology.
Mustafa affirmed his previous observations regarding the PPCC chief’s leadership performance, stating publicly that he maintained his position regarding the state leader’s capabilities.
The confrontation underscores persistent organizational disagreements within the state party hierarchy as current leaders turn to legal remedies to address internal opposition.
