CHANDIGARH, Sept 26 — Asserting his continued relevance in regional politics, former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh stated that expressing frank perspectives to the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership is an essential obligation rather than a prelude to leaving the party.
The senior leader, while participating in a commemorative book release for legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi, maintained that his extensive career grants him a unique vantage point on state governance. He declared that an alliance between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal serves the broader political interests of the state.
Expressing a desire for wider consultation within the organizational fold, Amarinder Singh noted that seasoned leadership brings invaluable insights. “We have seen the situation in Punjab over all these years, but they have not even asked us. It is my duty to tell them what my views and feelings are,” he affirmed.
He further clarified that expressing honest opinions does not signal an intention to switch political affiliations, citing past precedents in his career to contextually frame his current position. “That does not mean I will now leave and join another party. But it is my duty to tell them my views and what my feelings are,” he stated.
Dismissing speculation regarding retirement, the 84-year-old leader declared that he intends to remain actively engaged in state affairs, humorously adding that he is “not that old” to discontinue his political innings.
