Chandigarh, April 30: Eighteen members of the Haryana Police have been awarded financial grants totaling Rs 2.5 lakh each under the department’s ‘Shagun Scheme’ to assist with wedding expenses. The program, which became operational at the start of April, aims to bolster the social security and financial stability of those serving in the force.

The scheme was introduced to ensure that personnel can fulfill family duties without incurring heavy debt or financial strain. While the initial round of funding has been disbursed to 18 employees, the department is currently reviewing 12 more requests for assistance.

DGP Ajay Singhal affirmed that the decision to implement this scheme was made upon his transition into the role of Director General. “The decision we had taken to start this scheme when I took over as DGP has now become a reality,” Singhal stated, adding that the move represents a significant advancement in making police families economically resilient.

The DGP further maintained that providing this support allows employees to perform their roles without the burden of personal financial worries. He noted that the initiative is intended to provide a sense of security that extends beyond simple monetary aid.

Beneficiaries have expressed gratitude for the timely support. SI Kamal Chand affirmed that the grant simplified the difficult task of organizing a wedding. Additionally, beneficiary Surinder Kumar stated that the scheme enabled him to carry out his family responsibilities with self-respect. The administration continues to prioritize these welfare measures to maintain the morale and dignity of police families across the state.
