NEW DELHI, May 12 — The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday addressed recent Chinese official media reports that admitted to providing technical military support to Pakistan during the May 2025 Operation Sindoor. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that such actions by Beijing represent a failure of responsible nations to distance themselves from terrorist-supporting activities.
The disclosure surfaced last week when Chinese engineer Zhang Heng of the Chengdu Aircraft Design and Research Institute reportedly detailed the assistance provided during the four-day hostilities. Jaiswal affirmed that Operation Sindoor was a necessary and calibrated reaction to the Pahalgam terror attacks, intended to destroy the networks enabling such violence. He maintained that China’s role in assisting Pakistan’s defense capabilities during that specific period is now a matter of public record.
“Operation Sindoor was a precise, targeted and calibrated response to the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam,” Jaiswal asserted. He noted that the admission of on-site support by AVIC personnel for Pakistan’s Chinese-made jet fleet confirms what Indian authorities had already suspected. The spokesperson stated that this involvement directly assisted a nation in its efforts to preserve infrastructure used by state-sponsored actors.
The MEA stated that the international community expects major powers to uphold standards that discourage the protection of terrorist networks. Jaiswal noted that by choosing to provide technical aid during an active counter-terrorism operation, China has invited scrutiny regarding its own global standing. He affirmed that India’s actions during the 2025 conflict were solely focused on regional safety and the elimination of extremist threats.
“It is for nations that consider themselves responsible to reflect on these actions,” Jaiswal stated. He declared that New Delhi would continue to monitor these developments closely while prioritizing national security interests above all else.
