NEW DELHI, AUGUST 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to undertake a four-day Central Asian diplomatic tour, beginning with a state visit to Uzbekistan before attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Kyrgyzstan. A key feature of the upcoming summit will be a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to review economic, trade, and defense cooperation.
The tour commences in Tashkent on August 29, marking the Prime Minister’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan. Bilateral discussions with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will focus on strengthening strategic ties across energy, digital infrastructure, trade, and education, aligning developmental goals under the Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative.
Diplomatic officials maintained that the upcoming bilateral engagements present an opportunity to reinforce long-standing partnerships amid changing regional dynamics.
“The visit to Uzbekistan will reaffirm the close, multi-faceted and growing strategic partnership between the two countries, while the SCO Summit will provide an opportunity to discuss regional security, peace, stability and cooperation,” affirmed MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George.
The Bishkek summit, taking place from August 31 to September 1 under the chairmanship of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, brings together leaders from across Eurasia. Ministry representatives confirmed that alongside the address to the SCO plenary, the Prime Minister will engage in several bilateral meetings with participating heads of state on the sidelines of the event.
