Ropar, July 31: Police authorities in Ropar announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with the murder of a Nangal resident whose body was dumped into the Anandpur Sahib hydel canal, while simultaneously seizing seven illegal pistols in a separate anti-crime operation. SSP Maninder Singh confirmed that both matters resulted in police custody remands, allowing teams to deepen their ongoing probes.

The murder investigation commenced after a male body was pulled from the canal near Patti village. Identity was established when the deceased’s wife recognized his distinct body tattoos from images shared online by law enforcement, confirming his identity as Balwinder Pal. Nangal police subsequently registered a case under relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions.

Police officers stated that the suspects—Amitoj, Amarjit, and Gaurav—had a history of disputes with the victim. On the day of the incident, the trio allegedly plyed Pal with alcohol before killing him and casting his remains into the water to destroy evidence. The court granted a three-day remand for the trio, who already face prior charges related to drugs and theft.

Meanwhile, a focused campaign against gangsters led to the arrest of Himachal Pradesh residents Lakhwinder Singh and Raman along IIT Road. Detectives seized seven illegal handguns and live ammunition during the interception, subsequently booking the duo under the Arms Act to trace the origins of the illegal cache.
