Hardeep Puri Retained in Union Cabinet with Rajya Sabha Nomination from MP

BJP Secures Ministerial Position for Prominent Sikh Leader Ahead of State Assembly Elections

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, OCT 28: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is set to continue his tenure in the Narendra Modi Cabinet after being fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party for a Rajya Sabha vacancy in Madhya Pradesh. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Union Minister L Murugan.

The nomination guarantees Puri’s uninterrupted presence in the Union Council of Ministers, where he serves as the sole Sikh representative. The decision carries strategic importance for the BJP as it prepares its outreach and campaign strategy for the upcoming Punjab polls early next year.

The move resolves recent political guesswork after Puri was omitted from the BJP’s Rajya Sabha candidate list in Uttar Pradesh, where nominations favored home-state leaders keeping the 2027 state election in view. The Madhya Pradesh nomination secures his parliamentary standing and administrative role.
