Deep Excavation Triggers Water Crisis in Bhiwani, Farmers Body Intervenes

Supreme Court Panel Urged to Order Health Assessment and Compensate Affected Families Across Mining Belt

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Oct 28: Faced with drying wells and mounting health hazards, the All India Kisan Sabha has petitioned a Supreme Court oversight committee to intervene against unchecked mining practices in the Aravallis. Farm representatives met the visiting four-member expert panel in Ramalwas village to detail the extent of ecological damage caused by deep excavation and blasting across Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts.

The delegation asserted that mining activities have routinely violated prescribed parameters, penetrating far beneath groundwater levels. Om Prakash, vice-president of the Bhiwani Kisan Sabha unit, affirmed that excavation depths have hit unprecedented levels—reaching 800 feet in Dadam and 400 feet in Ramalwas. The resulting damage extends beyond depleted water tables to structural risks from heavy blasting near residential zones.

The delegation maintained that the loss of green cover and hill structures disrupts local weather patterns and agricultural stability. They raised serious concerns over toxic dust, declaring that mining-adjacent villages face widespread exposure to silicosis, tuberculosis, and chronic chest illnesses.

To alleviate the impact on rural households, the Sabha pressed for comprehensive health checks, medical assistance, and direct compensation for loss of land, livestock, and property. They declared that accountability must be fixed on both non-compliant leaseholders and enforcement authorities. The judicial committee gathered the inputs before departing for further site visits in Narnaul, Mahendragarh district.
