SULTANPUR LODHI — Two young children lost their lives on Wednesday afternoon when their mother jumped into the Kali Bein river alongside them in a suspected suicide attempt. The incident, which occurred near the Adalat Chak area, resulted in the drowning of two brothers aged six and three, despite the successful rescue of their mother by local residents.

Simran Kaur, the wife of Bharpoor Singh, allegedly took her sons, Veer Pratap Singh and Gur Pratap Singh, to the riverside after collecting one child from his school. Eyewitnesses stated that the woman plunged into the water with both children, prompting a frantic rescue effort from people nearby. While the mother was safely brought to the shore, the children disappeared beneath the surface.

“A case has been registered and further investigation is under way,” affirmed ASI Baldev Singh, who is leading the police inquiry. He noted that the bodies were recovered and moved to the mortuary of the local Civil Hospital for legal formalities.

Police investigators declared that the family is being questioned to understand the background of the incident. It was noted that Simran Kaur had been struggling with personal distress, which may have contributed to the decision to head to the river. Security personnel at the site maintained that they are looking into all angles of the case as the community deals with the aftermath of the heartbreaking loss.
