Mohali, Nov 6: The Municipal Corporation of Mohali has taken concrete steps toward transforming the city’s sanitation landscape while releasing substantial funding for ward-level developmental projects. During a key Finance and Contracts Committee session chaired by Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana, municipal leaders maintained that the long-standing challenge of urban waste disposal will soon be resolved through the formal activation of the Solid Waste Management Plant at Samgauli. The committee established that completing the remaining boundary wall perimeter and laying key access roads will serve as the final preparatory phase before full waste management operations commence at the site, providing much-needed relief to local neighborhoods impacted by overburdened RMC collection centers.
To ensure balanced growth across all municipal zones, the committee formally sanctioned ₹9 crore worth of immediate civic projects focused on improving primary infrastructure, road resurfacing, and public services. Furthermore, technical estimates for an additional ₹30 crore in prospective works were presented and reviewed, signaling a major funding pipeline for citywide improvements in the coming months. Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana affirmed that the administration remains committed to transparent governance and sustainable development, advising external political leaders against politicizing localized administrative actions such as the recent Phase-5 Shahimajra market closure. Senior officials present at the session included Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor R.P. Sharma, Deputy Mayor Harpal Singh Channa, and committee member Councilor Gurmeet Kaur, alongside key departmental engineers.
