New Policy to Grant Property Titles to Chandigarh Rehabilitation Allottees

Central government review underway for regularizing general power of attorney property transfers

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Oct 5: The Chandigarh Administration has finalized a legal policy framework designed to confer ownership rights upon thousands of occupants residing in city rehabilitation housing units.

Government representatives affirmed that the comprehensive proposal has been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs following thorough reviews by administrative committees. The initiative addresses longstanding demands from residents who acquired housing units through power of attorney arrangements after original allotments were made on leasehold bases dating back to 1979. Officials declared that the policy seeks to resolve legal uncertainties surrounding secondary transactions across colonies including Indira Colony, Manimajra, and Sectors 52 and 56.

The administration stated that the regularisation process will involve standard fee structures, including area collector rates for stamp duty and administrative charges. Representatives asserted that the move will transform informal holdings into recognized legal assets, strengthening municipal record-keeping and community welfare once central clearance is issued.
