Over Half of Punjab Voter Database Digitised Under Special Revision Initiative

Chief Electoral Officer confirms near-universal distribution as draft roll deadline nears

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, July 11: The digital compilation of Punjab’s voter records has reached the halfway mark, with election authorities processing more than 1 crore house-to-house enumeration forms since the launch of the state’s Special Intensive Revision drive. The massive logistical operation aims to modernise and verify the identities of the state’s entire electorate over a single month.

To prevent citizens from being left out of the updating process, the state election office has deployed a 24,453-strong team of booth-level officers to execute door-to-door visits across all 24,453 polling stations. A massive 99.34 percent of the paperwork has already landed in the hands of citizens across 117 Assembly constituencies. The ongoing phase is supported by two-day specialized camps organized over the July 11 and 12 weekend to fast-track unresolved files and provide direct public assistance.

The specialized booths will cater specifically to individuals who need help filling out remaining documents, updating specific personal criteria, or resolving intricate linkage discrepancies. Officials are using these camps to maximize voter awareness and ensure that every demographic is accounted for before the field tracking window closes.

The head of the state’s electoral body expressed deep gratitude to the sprawling network of supervisors and assistant registration officers handling the massive data management system. Mitra declared that ensuring near-universal outreach is the ultimate goal, noting that transforming physical documents into secured digital data remains the most critical pillar for protecting the democratic structure and keeping lists pristine.

The general revision map is moving toward a strict set of administrative deadlines. The intensive physical verification program involving 2.14 crore individuals is locked into a timeline that began on June 25 and will conclude on July 24.

The administrative framework will transition into its final phases immediately after the fieldwork finishes. Mitra asserted that the ongoing rationalisation of all polling centers will finish by July 24, allowing the draft electoral list to be printed openly on August 3. A formal window for public objections will run through September 2, with senior officials tasked with clearing all disputes by September 28 to ensure the definitive, clean electoral roll goes live on October 1.
