Chandigarh: Public sector administrative operations across Chandigarh, Mohali, and all districts in Punjab faced widespread disruption today as ministerial staff initiated a multi-day strike, announcing that the demonstration will extend through Friday after official talks ended without consensus.
The staff assembled outside administrative headquarters, directorates, and mini-secretariats, halting non-field government business across departments. Union members asserted that the state’s classification of their prior August 27 protest leave as “unauthorised” represents an unfair disciplinary measure.
In addition to seeking the revocation of potential show-cause notices tied to the previous demonstration, employee representatives maintained that the transfer of union convener Sushil Kumar Fauji must be rescinded. Protesting staff declared that administrative personnel will refrain from routine clerical and processing duties across all departments until official assurances are delivered.
Senior administrative officials held discussions with union representatives late in the afternoon to encourage a return to work. However, union leadership declared that the protest will proceed as planned until the administration withdraws its disciplinary letters and resolves the transfer issue.
