Amritsar, June 13: The Amritsar police have initiated a formal investigation and are moving to issue a Lookout Circular against a Wellington-based NRI after his wife accused him of drugging her and kidnapping their five-year-old son. The targeted individual, Sukhdeep Singh, allegedly abandoned his wife at an Amritsar sarai on June 10 after administering a laced beverage the previous evening. The authorities registered the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a detailed complaint by the victim at the Division B police station.
The victim, Ramanpreet Kaur, asserted that the family arrived in Amritsar on June 8 under the pretext of paying obeisance at the Golden Temple and Gurdwara Shaheeda Sahib. She declared that after consuming milk provided by her husband on June 9, she became unconscious and awoke to find her child and vital belongings gone. The stolen items included her Indian passport, 2,000 New Zealand dollars, her driving licence, financial cards, and personal identification documents.
In her statement to the authorities, Ramanpreet Kaur affirmed that she married Sukhdeep Singh in November 2019 before settling abroad, where she faced ongoing domestic harassment regarding dowry demands from her spouse and his immediate relatives. After finding the family home in Jalandhar locked and receiving no assistance from her mother-in-law, she sought police intervention. Station House Officer Baljinder Singh stated that legal proceedings are actively moving forward and confirmed that the specific roles of other family members in the dispute will be thoroughly verified as the investigation continues.
