President Murmu Grants Evening Meeting to INDIA Bloc MPs Over Electoral Roll Dispute

Opposition alliance pressing for CEC resignation and reinstatement of 13 crore struck-off voters

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, OCT 9: Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu will receive a delegation of INDIA bloc members following escalating friction over alleged operational lapses within the Election Commission. Entering the fourth day of organized agitation, opposition parties reiterated demands to cancel the Special Intensive Revision drive, restore 13 crore deleted electors to voter lists, and secure the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition representatives declared that they will present a joint memorandum to the President while renewing efforts in Parliament to initiate removal proceedings against the CEC.

In response to the charges, the Election Commission affirmed that judicial authorities previously validated the update mechanism, stating that deleted entries primarily accounted for dead, duplicate, and ineligible electors. Parallel legal proceedings remain underway before the Supreme Court, which requested official records to establish if decisions were passed by unanimous or majority consensus in compliance with established legislative rules.
