Opposition Coalitions Plan Further Marches as Election Commission Defends Roll Updates

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI/MUMBAI, OCT 3: Police departments in multiple states placed major venues under high security on Friday after widespread demonstrations disrupted movement in several metro cities.

The protests stemmed from concerns raised by political coalitions regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise currently underway by the Election Commission. Protesters in Mumbai, Delhi, and other major regions called for administrative accountability and urged officials to suspend ongoing voter roll modifications. Security personnel in New Delhi taken into custody several hundred demonstrators attempting to march toward central administrative zones.

Opposition leaders declared that a series of follow-up district-level marches will continue through October, leading up to further national-level rallies. Election Commission officials maintained that the voter revision process remains transparent and legally compliant, rejecting accusations of procedural bias. Investigation and public order monitoring remain ongoing across the affected locations.
