Lucknow, Oct 9: The Uttar Pradesh government authorized the deployment of 1,725 new air-conditioned electric buses to bolster urban mobility across 18 municipal districts.

Announced on Friday following an executive cabinet session, the strategy relies on a public-private partnership structure where selected vendors manage vehicle acquisition, charging infrastructure, and fleet maintenance.

The state government will retain full authority over passenger tariffs while paying operators based on standardized performance guidelines.

The project provides significant financial backing, offering up to ₹40 lakh per vehicle in financial support alongside complimentary depot land provided by municipal corporations and local authorities.

Officials maintained that private sector participation ensures operational efficiency, updated vehicle technology, and improved service punctuality.

Procurement guidelines will grant preference to buses built within Uttar Pradesh at competitive L-1 rates, stimulating local industry and generating technical jobs.
