Tactical operation exposes digital communication network used by transnational drug couriers

AMRITSAR, May 18, 2026 – A targeted anti-smuggling operation in Amritsar has halted a major distribution ring, with authorities recovering a substantial stash of narcotics and seven foreign-manufactured handguns intended for regional criminal syndicates.

The operation concluded with the arrest of Khush Kumar, a resident of the Gurwali Gate neighborhood who has an extensive history of statutory violations. Investigators noted that the suspect relied heavily on internet-based virtual communication numbers to mask his coordination with overseas masterminds, helping to coordinate localized drone drops near the international boundary.

“Commissionerate Police Amritsar acted promptly and arrested the accused before the weapons could be circulated further,” Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar declared.

The commissioner stated that the dual-recovery of narcotics and weapons indicates a synchronized effort by cross-border syndicates to fund criminal activities while simultaneously arming localized elements.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav maintained that the containment of this module represents a significant step forward in the ongoing provincial safety campaign. He noted, “Illegal consignments of heroin and weapons were being delivered through drones from across the border, which were further supplied to criminal elements by the accused.”

Yadav asserted that investigators are working in tandem with federal intelligence divisions to decode the virtual phone logs recovered from the suspect’s electronic devices.

The physical inventory detailed by the recovery teams included highly specialized weaponry, specifically mentioning distinct models from Italy, Turkey, China, and Austria. The suspect remains in custody under a multi-day remand at the C-Division station, where narcotics agents are pursuing leads regarding the financial accounts used to process the drug transactions.
