Hisar, June 9 – Less than two months after air services began from Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar to Ayodhya, direct flights to Chandigarh also commenced on Monday, marking another milestone for Haryana’s first operational airport.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who flagged off the inaugural flight and travelled on it himself, called the moment “a day of pride for all Haryanvis.”
“After Ayodhya, direct air service to Chandigarh has now started from the state’s first airport. I heartily congratulate the people of Haryana,” he posted on X in Hindi.
Speaking before the flight, Saini said the development would usher in a new phase of regional growth, bringing both connectivity and economic opportunities to Hisar.
The Chief Minister announced that air routes to Jaipur, Jammu, and Ahmedabad would be added soon, with services expanding in a phased manner.
“This will benefit citizens with fast and accessible travel. Hisar will also take a new flight of development,” Saini said.
The current expansion follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s April 14 foundation stone-laying ceremony for the airport’s new terminal building, worth over ₹410 crore, and the launch of the Hisar–Ayodhya flight the same day.
Saini said that the airport’s growth would transform Hisar into a hub of industry and services, driving regional development and making aviation more accessible to the public.
“This airport is a gift from PM Modi. His vision was to ensure even common citizens can access air travel. That dream is becoming a reality,” he said.
Taking a swipe at critics, Saini said:“The Opposition once mocked this airport, calling it just an aerodrome. But we’ve kept our promise. Flights have started, and more are coming.”
The launch of Chandigarh-bound flights marks a significant boost for intra-state air travel, connecting Haryana’s political capital to its industrial heartland and underlining the government’s push for Tier-2 city aviation infrastructure.
