Hemkunt Sahib, May 4: Preparations for the Sri Hemkunt Sahib pilgrimage reached a new phase today as a joint contingent of the Indian Army and Gurudwara sevadars moved into the shrine complex to begin specialized route widening. By opening the gates of the Gurudwara, the 418 Independent Field Company has shifted its operations from a daily commute to a full-time station at the high-altitude site.
This strategic move allows the personnel to concentrate on the treacherous stretch between the Gurudwara and the Atalkoti Glacier. The work is essential for the safety of the yatra, as the path must be carved through significant snow and rocky passes. Surrounded by seven peaks, the site remains one of the most geographically demanding pilgrimage destinations in the world.
“Now, they will remain stationed at Hemkunt Sahib itself to continue their operations,” the Management Trust asserted, explaining that the transition will expedite the remaining clearance tasks.
The Management Trust expressed gratitude for the tireless dedication of the sevadars and the professional expertise of the 9 Mountain Brigade. Officials maintained that the partnership between the military and the volunteers is a cornerstone of the annual pilgrimage’s success. As the May 23 opening date approaches, the Trust has requested that all devotees follow official safety guidelines and stay informed through formal updates.
“This joint effort once again showcases the unique spirit of selfless service that defines the pilgrimage to Hemkunt Sahib,” the Gurudwara management stated regarding the collaboration.
