How to Detox Your Body

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Aug 6: In an age where processed foods, pollution, and stress wreak havoc on the body, health experts say one of the easiest and most effective ways to detox is through natural drinks. These beverages, often made from common ingredients like lemon, ginger, turmeric, and herbs, help flush out toxins, support liver function, improve digestion, and restore hydration—all without the need for extreme diets or expensive supplements.

“Detoxing through drinks is not about starving yourself or following fads. It’s about giving your body the nutrients and hydration it needs to naturally cleanse and heal itself,” said Dr. Anjali Nanda, a nutritionist based in Delhi.

Among the most recommended detox drinks is warm lemon water, especially when consumed first thing in the morning. “Lemon water stimulates bile production in the liver and helps regulate your digestive system,” said Nanda. She added that a pinch of rock salt or a spoon of honey can enhance its detoxifying effects.

Another powerful option is turmeric water. Turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, works best when mixed with warm water and black pepper. “The pepper activates curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, making it more bioavailable,” explained Nanda.

Cucumber and mint-infused water is another refreshing detox drink. “This one is especially good in summer. Cucumber hydrates, mint soothes digestion, and together they flush out bloating and toxins,” said yoga instructor and wellness coach Surbhi Malhotra.

Green tea remains a staple in most detox routines due to its high antioxidant content, particularly catechins, which boost liver function. Nutritionists recommend drinking 2–3 cups daily but caution against consuming it on an empty stomach or too late in the evening.

For those looking to improve gut health specifically, apple cider vinegar (ACV) water is often recommended. A teaspoon of ACV in a glass of water before meals is believed to balance stomach acid and enhance digestion. However, experts warn that undiluted ACV can harm tooth enamel and should be used with care.

Beetroot juice and carrot-ginger shots are packed with vitamins A and C, and help purify the blood. While fresh juice is preferred, nutritionists suggest drinking it immediately after preparation for maximum benefit.

While detox drinks are safe and effective when used consistently, doctors warn against over-reliance. “No drink is a magic potion. Detoxification is a continuous process handled by your liver and kidneys. These drinks simply support that process,” said Dr. Nanda.

She recommends starting with one detox drink a day, staying well-hydrated with plain water, and maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fiber.

The takeaway: you don’t need complicated diets to feel better. Just open your kitchen, grab a lemon, grate some ginger, or steep a cup of green tea—and let nature do the rest.
