Patiala, August 27: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Bhivamtej Singla, Assistant Jail Superintendent of Central Jail, Nabha, on charges of accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. Officials said the arrest was made as part of the state government’s ongoing drive against corruption.
A spokesperson for the VB said the action followed a complaint received through the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complainant, a resident of Patran town in Patiala district, alleged that Singla had been harassing her husband, who is lodged in Central Jail, Nabha, and demanded ₹20,000 to stop the harassment. She later transferred ₹10,000 through Google Pay, the spokesperson said.
According to the VB, an inquiry confirmed the allegations and a corruption case was registered against the Assistant Jail Superintendent at the bureau’s police station in Patiala. The spokesperson added, “The accused was absconding and his bail application was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. After his surrender in the court, he was sent to one-day police remand by the Vigilance Bureau.”
The bureau noted that further investigation in the case is underway.
