Kangra, Sept 16: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has inaugurated a new robotic surgery facility at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda, in the Kangra district. The facility, costing approximately Rs 30 crore, marks the state’s second high-tech surgical centre, with the first located at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialty in Shimla.
Due to bad weather, the CM had to attend virtually. Alongside the inauguration, the government announced an increase in BSc Nursing seats at Tanda Medical College to 60, and promised the phased rollout of robotic surgery facilities at other medical colleges in Hamirpur, Chamba, Nerchowk, and Nahan. Furthermore, 150-200 paramedical staff positions and 50 new operation theatre radiographer posts will be created. A PET scan machine will also be installed at Tanda soon, reducing dependence on external facilities.
In his address, the CM stressed enhancing emergency department capacities and incentivizing high performance among medical staff. This reflects a push by the state government to strengthen its health infrastructure, especially in remote and hilly districts.
