Chandigarh, October 29: Pushing Tourism sector, the Punjab government on Tuesday launched six major projects through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, announced at a high-level investor meet organized by the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) amid reports of government inviting national developers and consultants to collaborate on projects for modernizing Punjab’s tourism landscape.
The initiative, officials said, underscores the government’s focus on transparent investment and rapid execution.
Among the marquee projects is an urban ropeway in Amritsar, expected to improve mobility through the city’s heritage corridors and offer aerial views of its religious landmarks. Heritage conservation will also take center stage, with Aam Khas Bagh in Sirhind and Darbar Hall in Kapurthala being restored and developed into luxury heritage hotels.
A Pinkasia Tourist Complex in Ropar is also planned to expand visitor amenities, while new Convention and Exhibition Centres in Mohali and Ludhiana aim to turn Punjab into a hub for business tourism.
Officials from PIDB, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development Departments interacted with potential investors, discussing project timelines, technical feasibility, and legal clearances.
“The entire process—from bidding to revenue sharing—will be transparent,” an official said, adding that the state encourages open dialogue with the private sector to make the projects more investor-friendly.
According to the government, the PPP approach will ensure a sustainable model where private expertise and public vision come together to create high-quality infrastructure. “This collaboration will not only enhance Punjab’s tourism offerings but also strengthen its economy by creating jobs and attracting visitors from across India and abroad,” officials noted.
The initiative reflects Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s larger vision of a “New Punjab” that merges cultural heritage with economic growth. Officials said the investor conference marked a “turning point” in promoting tourism as a driver of inclusive and transparent development.
