Petition seeks deportation of Sikh pilgrim over alleged visa breach

by TheReportingTimes

Lahore, December 5 — A petition before the Lahore High Court has sought the immediate deportation of Indian Sikh pilgrim Sarabjit Kaur, alleging she overstayed her religious visa and violated travel restrictions during her Pakistan visit.

The plea, filed by former Punjab Assembly member Mahendra Pal Singh, contends that Kaur “clearly violated Pakistani laws” by travelling beyond designated pilgrimage routes and remaining in the country past her permitted stay. Advocate Ali Chengizi Sandhu is representing the petitioner.

Justice Farooq Haider issued notices to the state and other respondents after Friday’s initial hearing, asking for replies within two weeks. Advocate Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi confirmed that the petition was accepted today after procedural objections were removed.

The petition says Kaur, from Muktsar in Indian Punjab, entered Pakistan on November 4 on a 10-day single-entry visa limited to specific religious sites. It alleges she continued travelling even after November 13, the date her visa expired.

It further claims Kaur faces fraud and cheating cases in India, arguing that her movement inside Pakistan “raises legal and security concerns.” The petitioner has also asked the court to direct the FIA to investigate how the visa was issued “without proper background checks.”

Respondents include the federal government, Interior Ministry, FIA, Punjab government, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and the Punjab Minority Affairs Department.
