Chandigarh, Jan 17: Students across the city will return to their desks on Jan. 19 as Chandigarh ends its winter break with a shift in daily operating hours. The Department of School Education finalized the plan to push back start times, addressing concerns regarding the morning chill and limited visibility.
The department directly said the new timings apply to all categories of schools throughout the region. For the majority of students in single-shift institutions, the school day will now span from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This change provides a warmer window for travel and outdoor activities during the school day.
Institutions operating in dual rotations have been assigned specific blocks to avoid overlap and ensure safety. The first shift is slated for 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., while the afternoon rotation will commence at 1:15 p.m. and wrap up by 4:30 p.m.
“We want to ensure that the transition back to school is smooth for both parents and children,” a spokesperson for the education office mentioned.
The administration noted that these hours will remain in effect until further notice, depending on how weather patterns evolve over the coming weeks. Parents have been encouraged to check specific bus schedules as transport providers adjust to the 9 a.m. start time.
