Moscow blames US and Israel for Iran escalation

Funeral for Ayatollah Khamenei on hold amid security concerns

by TheReportingTimes

Tehran, March 5: The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that the United States and Israel bear full responsibility for the current military confrontation in Iran, which has led to the postponement of high-profile state ceremonies. The funeral for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, initially planned for Wednesday, was moved to an unspecified later time as hostilities continue to spread.

Russian officials asserted that the “lawlessness” seen in recent strikes requires a clear response from the international community. Maria Zakharova, representing the Russian Foreign Ministry, declared that Moscow is conducting rigorous diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region.

“We expect the IAEA leadership to find the resolve to respond clearly to the lawlessness committed in Iran, providing an impartial assessment of potential radiological risks,” Ms. Zakharova affirmed.

The Iranian government has also moved to clarify its internal transition process. The Iranian Consulate General in Mumbai maintained that no official successors have been selected by the Assembly of Experts, dismissing recent media speculation as unfounded.

“The farewell ceremony would continue for three days, and the funeral procession would be announced later,” Hojjatoleslam Mahmoudi stated via state media.

In a critique of international responses, the Russian ministry noted that the humanitarian cost, including the deaths of children, was being ignored by Western leaders. Ms. Zakharova asserted that the removal of sovereign leaders under the guise of “hope” does not justify the loss of innocent lives. She stated that the current geography of the conflict continues to expand, posing a severe threat to regional peace.
