Police directed to take rapper Badshah into custody

Passport seizure authorized as singer skips Panipat summons

PANIPAT, March 13, 2026 — Rapper Badshah faces potential arrest following a directive from the Haryana State Commission for Women on Friday. The order was issued after the singer skipped a scheduled hearing concerning his new song ‘Tateeree,’ which has been accused of depicting women and school uniforms in a derogatory manner.

Chairperson Renu Bhatia affirmed that the commission has asked police in Panchkula and Panipat to act against the singer for non-compliance. She noted that the panel is also considering the seizure of his travel documents to prevent him from moving abroad while the inquiry is active.

The singer’s legal counsel appeared before the commission, asserting that the rapper had prior professional engagements and faced security threats that made a physical appearance difficult. They requested that the singer be allowed to join the proceedings via video conference. The commission, however, declared that the gravity of the complaints necessitated a personal appearance.

“The track contains visuals and lyrics that have drawn significant public protest,” the commission stated. Local activists and community groups declared that the portrayal of women in the video, specifically scenes set on a public bus, was unacceptable.

Despite an apology from Badshah, in which he expressed regret for any offense caused, authorities affirmed that the legal process would continue. The video was taken down from digital platforms following the registration of FIRs, but community leaders in Haryana maintained that the singer must still answer for the content of the production.
