Chandigarh, SEPT 13: Food delivery service Zomato has updated its fee structure, introducing a dedicated line item for transactions settled in cash upon delivery. The fee, reflected under the bill summary, incurs a charge ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 20 in addition to standard delivery rates, restaurant packaging costs, platform fees, and applicable GST.
The implementation comes amid broader changes across the digital services sector, where incremental adjustments contribute to annual operational revenues across food ordering and e-commerce platforms. Observers note that while platform charges have risen steadily over recent years, cash-handling levies remain specific to non-digital settlements.
The extra charge applies strictly to cash settlements, leaving online transactions unaffected. Meanwhile, other leading players in the market have maintained their existing payment structures without adding similar cash-on-delivery costs.
