Central Probe Offered in Gagandeep Randhawa Death Case

MPs urged to provide written request for CBI inquiry

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, March 23: The death of Punjab Warehousing Corporation official Gagandeep Singh Randhawa reached the Parliament today, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah offering a CBI inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the suicide. The offer was made in response to concerns raised by MP Gurjit Singh Aujla regarding the alleged involvement of high-ranking political figures in the tragedy.

Amit Shah declared that the Centre is ready to intervene if the parliamentary representatives of Punjab formally request a central investigation. He noted that such a step would ensure a thorough and impartial look into the allegations of harassment and intimidation that led to the officer’s death. This development follows the registration of a criminal case against former Punjab Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and his associates by the local police.

Despite the police action, the situation at the ground level remains at a standstill as the victim’s family demands immediate arrests before the post-mortem. Upinder Kaur, the deceased’s wife, affirmed that the humiliation and pressure faced by her husband left the family in a state of desperation. She maintained that the protest would escalate into a public demonstration if the authorities failed to act against the accused individuals named in the FIR.

Recent evidence, including viral CCTV footage from the officer’s home, shows Randhawa wandering in the veranda in the early hours before reportedly consuming poison. Investigators stated that this footage, along with other digital evidence, is being secured for the ongoing probe. While the state police have already initiated a case for abetment to suicide, the possibility of a CBI takeover remains contingent on the collective push from Punjab’s elected representatives.
