Winter Conditions Return to Himachal Pradesh

155 Roads Blocked as Snowfall Hits Higher Reaches

by TheReportingTimes

Manali, April 4: Heavy precipitation across Himachal Pradesh has led to widespread travel disruptions and a drastic dip in mercury levels. Continuous rainfall in Kullu and Mandi, coupled with fresh snow in the Lahaul-Spiti district, has halted traffic on the Darcha-Shinku La-Padum highway. This route, which serves as a critical link between the Lahaul Valley and Ladakh, is currently impassable from the Himachal side following heavy accumulation during the night.

The District Disaster Management Authority declared that over 150 roads remain closed to traffic as specialized clearing teams face persistent weather challenges. The Public Works Department asserted that while crews are on the ground, the pace of work is limited by the harsh environment. In the Lahaul Valley, the thick snow has created a scenic but difficult landscape, requiring locals to clear courtyards and essential paths to maintain their daily routines.

Government officials stated that the administration is on high alert and has issued advisories for both residents and tourists to stay updated on weather developments. The sudden transition from a brief warm spell back to freezing temperatures has impacted the transport of essential supplies to remote regions. Authorities maintained that safety remains the primary priority as they wait for a window of clear weather to expedite the reopening of major arterial roads.
