High Cost of Rescue: US Forces Neutralize Assets in Iran

Two MC-130J Aircraft Blown Up During Pilot Extraction Operation

by TheReportingTimes

IFSHAN, APRIL 5: A dramatic American rescue mission inside Iran resulted in the intentional destruction of at least two U.S. Special Operations aircraft, according to recent reports. The operation, aimed at recovering a second American aviator after an F-15E crash, forced U.S. commanders to order the demolition of their own transport planes to protect classified equipment.

The New York Times and CBS News affirmed that the aircraft were destroyed to prevent them from being seized by Iranian forces after they became stranded. The MC-130J models involved are primary tools for the extraction of troops from hostile environments, making their loss a significant hardware setback despite the successful recovery of the personnel.

“Two US Special Operations aircraft were blown up on the ground during the rescue,” the Wall Street Journal stated, citing individuals knowledgeable about the mission’s specifics.

In contrast to the American account of a successful extraction, Tehran asserted that the operation was intercepted and disrupted. Iranian military officials declared that the loss of American hardware was more extensive than reported by the West, claiming that two Black Hawk helicopters were also lost in the vicinity of Isfahan.

“If the United States gets three more victories like this, it will be utterly ruined,” Iranian parliamentary speaker MB Ghalibaf declared in response to the reports of destroyed American assets.

U.S. officials maintained that the primary objective—the safe return of the crew—was achieved, though they have not yet addressed the specific circumstances that led to the transport planes becoming immobilized on the Iranian desert floor.
