ICC launches European Trophy Tour as prize pot climbs past $8.7 million

LONDON, APRIL 13 — Pursuing its mandate for global growth in the women’s game, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared a massive $8.76 million prize pool for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. The figure represents a significant jump from the $7.95 million distributed during the 2024 tournament.

The world governing body stated that losing semi-finalists will now earn $675,000 each, while the overall champions are set to secure a $2.34 million windfall. CEO Sanjog Gupta asserted that the increased investment is a direct result of the rising impact of female athletes on the international stage.

“This event is shaping up to not only set a host of new attendance and viewing records but also leave a lasting impact on the wider socio-cultural landscape,” Gupta affirmed.

Coinciding with the financial announcement, the official Trophy Tour began Monday at Lord’s. The trophy will travel through the Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland before returning to England for a multi-city tour through May. Major hubs including Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, and Leeds are scheduled to host fan engagement events in the lead-up to the June 12 opening match.

Officials maintained that the expansion of the tournament format to 12 teams ensures broader representation and greater opportunity for emerging cricketing nations. The ICC asserted that the record-breaking prize fund serves as a benchmark for the sport’s continued professionalization and commercial success.
