Congress Chief to Move HC Against Bishnoi Docuseries

Warring labels ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ a threat to social fabric; calls for immediate government intervention

Chandigarh, April 21: Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, has announced legal action against the release of a new docuseries based on the life of Lawrence Bishnoi. Warring stated that the show, titled “Lawrence of Punjab,” portrays a dangerous criminal in a manner that could glorify gangsterism among vulnerable teenagers.

The Congress chief asserted that the title of the series unfairly maligns the reputation of Punjab. He pointed out that Bishnoi is originally from Rajasthan and is currently incarcerated in Gujarat, yet the series persists in linking his criminal identity to the state of Punjab.

“The proposed TV series will send a wrong signal to the youth, as the TV series will only end up glorifying someone who deserves to be condemned,” Warring declared.

The demand for a ban comes as the Congress party prepares to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Warring maintained that individuals involved in high-profile killings and transnational crime syndicates should not be humanized through media amplification. He stated that the silence of the authorities on this “blatant insult” to the state is concerning and that the protection of Punjab’s social fabric must take precedence over commercial entertainment.
